Different Types of Footwear Material

Depending on your shoe type, there are ways to care for them properly:

Finished Leather
Leather shoes need regular cleaning and care. Always remove surface dirt and dust before polishing. Never polish a leather shoe if it is wet. Select the closest colour to your shoe. Neutral shoe creams and natural wax polishes are suitable for light coloured or natural leathers. We have a wide range of products available for polishing, protecting, renovating or dyeing leather shoes.

Patent Leather
A patent leather cleaner should be used to maintain the original appearance of the shoes and to keep the leather soft and supple.

Suede Leather
Brush out dust regularly and remove slight mud soiling when dry with a suede brush. This will stop dust and grit collecting in the nap of the suede. We have a wide range of products available for cleaning, brushing, protecting, dying and renovating suede.

Nubuck Leather
Due to the fine nap of this leather, extra care should be taken when cleaning. Gentle use of a suede brush with a specialist cleaning product will remove most stains. For best results on matted or shiny spots rub lightly with fine sandpaper before spraying the product. We have a wide range of products available for cleaning, brushing, protecting, dying and renovating nubuck.

Fabric
Fabrics are used in a variety of forms and fibre types in a wide range of footwear from robust canvas in sports footwear to delicate satin for evening shoes and a full range of textiles in fashion footwear. To clean fabric use a specialist cleaner and follow the instructions at all times. We have a wide range of products available for cleaning, , protecting, dying and maintaining fabric footwear.

Matt, Oily & Greasy Leather
The use of our specialist cleaners will clean, condition and restore the appearance of matt, oily and greasy and burnished leathers. Our Waxed leather conditioner products are ideal for restoring the characteristic appearance of waxy leathers, which will otherwise dry out quickly. Regular use of a protector is recommended to help guard against water and staining.
